After finishing the Social Sciences course at the Pre-University College, he began his career as a production assistant.

He entered one of the most outstanding media agencies in Angola at that time, Link Comunicação e Imagem. It was at Link that Walter Fernandes first came into contact with photography and video, and a year later he became a production assistant in Maianga Productions. In 2003 Walter Fernandes began to work in the Executive Center advertising agency where for the next five years he learned all about Advertising and Image and won the first prizes in advertising, including those for best advert (twice) and best outdoor ad.

The result of this project was shown for the first time to the public in an exhibition in the Planet Earth Summit – Lisbon 2009. In Angola the Exhibition was held in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo and Benguela, and, internationally, at the UNECO Summit for Sustainable Development (in the headquarters of the United Nations in Paris, France, New York, USA, Stockholm and Upssala in Sweden). This project also gave rise to the publication of a book with the same image
